Tuesday November 27th, 2018

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving.

The Center serves the community’s children with educational and enrichment programs for our After-School kids and our Summer Camp. We are always in need of funding for our programs, but this year we need even more, as the time has come for a new building. Because of NYS regulations we do not have room to accept more children. It breaks our hearts to turn away the kids who need us most. We need more space so that the dozen or so children currently on our wait list can thrive like their peers by having supervised homework, one-on-one tutoring if they need it; art, dance, music, karate and cooking classes to name just a few, along with field trips and our Scrabble and Chess Clubs. We are unique, offering services that do not exist elsewhere in our community. We are a life-line for working families.

For many years we have been supporting families with college counseling and scholarship assistance. We need more space as well for our growing teen enrichment programs, including our College and SAT prep classes. We are so proud to have had eight teens head off to college last year and four more to college this Fall, most are the first in their families so to do.

All this and more currently takes place in the original farmhouse donated to The Center in the early 1950s. The old building also houses our Executive offices and provides one, just one, bathroom, for everyone.

We have plans that will provide more classrooms, a computer lab, office space, a covered porch that will offer an outdoor space during inclement weather for our After- School kids and our low- cost Summer camp, a space for our popular Thinking Forward Lecture Series, community gatherings, handicap accessibility and yes, more bathrooms.

Please give generously to support our kids. They are the future.

Born out of tragedy in 1949 after a migrant camp fire killed two children of seasonal workers, The Center continues to serve our community's children with educational and enrichment programs.  For many working parents, The Center is a lifeline.  Their children flourish in our many programs and play safely on the six acre farm and fields donated to create The Center in the 1950s.
